This project was for a club in Dallas called 2001.
We were to build a robot to raise and lower two cameras over a dance floor.
The customer wanted to see the lower level customers and the upper level ones as well.
The camera images were projected on video screens all over the club.

The trick was that we only had 8 feet from the ceiling to work with but the cameras had to extend down from 8 feet to 28 feet. That part was quite a challenge. The camera and pan/tilt motor together weighed 30lbs.

The cameras we used were over sampling color units that could see vivid color even in the darkened club environment.
The controls were located in the DJ booth so he could control the cameras.
The cameras also had a pan/tilt mechanism installed so we had 6 ways to move the cameras.

Built robot #1 (inverted).
We mounted a truck winch in the rafters to suspend unit #2 for final testing.
Here we are chaining up the mounts and ready for deployment.
Jeff was on the ground biting his fingernails. This deal had to work cause the club was having their grand opening that weekend.

Here's jeff making the final hookups while it was fully extended.
It all worked great. Whew!!
